Dainty Baby Girl | Airdrie Newborn Photographer | Lace and Locket Photo

This sweet girl is the baby sister of an adorable little guy I photographed a couple years ago. Mum had booked me for Holiday Family Portraits when she was in her third trimester and decided it was time to get this little miss booked in. She was a Christmas baby just like her brother.

Mama from this Airdrie newborn Photography session was wide open about the style and colours she wanted. This is always so fun because it gives me free reign to do what I want creatively and I love that. She did stipulate that she liked neutrals, which is great because I don’t really have a lot of bold, bright colours to begin with.

This sweet, sweet little dude came in late November. I always have a Black Friday sale and mama snagged one of the deals when babe was already a month old. I wasn’t worried about his newborn portraits because sometimes “elder newborns” are the best newborns.

He was such a good little one the entire session, not a single peep from him and he was down for every pose. He even laid in my moon pillow and held a tiny teddy bear and he’s so cute. His Airdrie newborn portraits are likely one of my favourite sessions I’ve done this season! Mama even let me do a couple Christmas themed photos!

I LOVE this family! They booked me for their maternity and newborn portraits with their first baby boy and we had fun. By fun, of course, I mean we froze our bums off in the mountains and there was snow and it was a-blowin’.

Fast forward to when Mama is pregnant with her second little dude, and she books me again! I am always so happy and excited, grateful, when clients book me multiple times. I love getting to know you all and those relationships just grow every time and it’s so incredible.

This little darling was so good for his photos the entire time, I did one of my favourite poses, “tummy time” in a little wooden bed!

I like to offer clients a gallery with a lot of variety, ideal with a vast selection of poses, colours, styles and changes so that your photos are all unique. You can see how that happens here, while trying to stick to a cohesive style.

The SWEETEST babe | Calgary Newborn Photographer | Lace & Locket Photo | Airdrie, AB

I dreamed about photographing this babe from the moment her mom booked me for both her maternity and newborn portraits. She told about how they had the most beautiful mural painted on their baby’s nursery wall and the colours they wanted to use (Jewel tones). I was so excited. I was sure to pick out some extra special stuff just for their Calgary newborn session because I wanted it to be PERFECT.

Are these family portraits not the most dreamy things? It was heaven photographing this family, with the rich cocoa background, it’s what photographer dreams are made of. Baby’s grandparents even travelled from eastern Canada to help out so they tagged along and got some grandparent portraits with little baby T.

I have to say that I am so proud of this little one’s gallery. She showed up for me and I showed up for her. She was easy to pose and she was down for all the ideas I had. Her gallery was huge and lovely and I can’t wait to see her again!

When clients book their sessions in advance, there’s no telling what adventures we will have in store for us. Luba had done her Banff Mountain Maternity Session with me back in early June2021.. You can see her incredible mountain maternity portraits here.

Well eventually this sweet babe made his grand arrival and Luba texted me to let me know. He was PERFECT! We booked her session for a few weeks out. Then she called me again to tell me she was upset that he had been put on oxygen, she had to call an ambulance one night, they spent a bit of time at SICK KIDS at the Alberta Children’s Hospital and she was exhausted to boot. On top of this whole ordeal. She was worried photos wouldn’t work out now that he had this little accessory and she was so upset. What a wild ride right off the bat for a first time mom!

I assured her that this wasn’t my first time working with a little one who had been put on oxygen and that we would figure it out. I kept the oxygen on him for most of the session, only removing it to snap a frame and then put it back on him. I even captured some images with the oxygen on. Mom was so upset about it, and I do not blame her at all, but I felt it was important to capture it nonetheless.

You see, when I had my first child, she had Hip Dysplasia and had to wear a Pavlik harness. I hated it. I felt traumatized by it, I felt like it was stealing moments from me and my first babe. I couldn’t hold her in a ‘normal’ way and I didn’t take very many photos of it because I didn’t think I’d ever want to remember it. Turns out I do want to remember it. That event was still a part of my first motherhood months and I look back on it now wishing I had more photos to think back, or show other new moms whose babies had to wear Pavlik harnesses that it’s okay, and they will get through it. So now, I tell clients that they don’t have to show anyone, they don’t have to look at those photos until they’re ready, but that one day they would want them and they should have them.

My first client that had a baby come to the studio with oxygen on felt the same way I had felt all those years ago, and the way Luba was feeling. I messaged her to ask if she ever cared about having those photos after I took them - her babe was actually about to turn one. She told me that she thought she’d never want them but she said she loved them now that he was off it, and she was happy I had captured them for her. Me too, friend. Me too.

In some of the images, you’ll see an Owlet Smart Sock on little Dude’s foot. We used this to monitor his oxygen levels in the moments where I removed the oxygen as it sends a notification to mom’s phone if his oxygen levels shifted at all. It worked out really well. What a sweet little one. I am writing this post months after his session and I am happy to share he is no longer on oxygen :)

This sweetest of sweet girls came to the studio from Chestermere, Alberta. I am always honoured when clients travel to me from places other than Calgary or Airdrie. Her mama had a mountain maternity done back in June, you can find that stunning session here.

While this was absolutely such an exceptional session in my books, I think my favourite part was including Grandma from Mom’s side and Grandpa from Dad’s side in the photos. They are both so proud to be grandparents and involved in their grandbabies’ lives and that just really sits so full in my heart. My next favourite thing was mom bringing her veil from their wedding to use, I LOVE getting to be creative with things like that, especially when it means getting to use bold colours.

This darling boy was an absolute delight to photograph. I know I say that every time but sometimes they make me work and sometimes they cut me some slack and this was one of those times. I did this session earlier this year but the moody tones still look so gorgeous to me and I am in awe of them. I hope these beautiful parents love their photos for years to come and I hope to see them again in the future!

This gorgeous lady came to me for her Mountain Maternity Images, and she has been SO lovely about letting me make videos so she’s like my unofficial Spokeswoman for Lace & Locket Photo. Her session took place on a December day when it wasn’t even cold, and there was barely any snow. I know, that’s unbelievable for being Alberta.

You can check out the video I made of C’s maternity session last winter here. It’s super catchy and C is such a stunner, so beware haha!

Naturally I had to make a little video for this Mister’s newborn session, and make Mama tear up when I did it too. You can check that out here.

This sweet girl came to visit me in February and while the weather outside was nasty and cold, we wanted to will Spring to come using florals and just simple, beautiful colours. She was absolutely perfect, so good to me the entire time. I absolutely loved the bucket and florals sticking out, that’s probably my favourite.

Sessions always start with family portraits and this is for a few reasons. It’s warm in the studio, and so I like to get them done asap so parents can sit down and relax and not feel the warmth as much. Another reason is when families bring older siblings- generally their attention spans and desire to hang out with me in my warm studio is fairly short so I like to get their photo taken while everything is still new and fun and fresh, and then either a partner or grandparent takes them out, either back home or out to the park or for ice cream at one of the fun Airdrie parks or Airdrie shops open :)

After the family portion is finished I focus on babe. I try to get through as many “sets’ as quickly as possible, with as much variety as possible. Some babes are totally into it and some want to tell me what they think about me touching them haha! In The case of sweet baby V, she slept like a dream the entire time.

These are just a handful of the some of my, and mom & dad’s favourite images from V’s session. Such a sweet girl!
