Sweet Baby Girl | Airdrie Newborn Photographer | Lace & Locket Photo

This baby’s mama booked me as she was on her way to the hospital, in labour with this little darling! She had come to get portraits done with her first babe a couple years ago and I was so happy to have her back in my studio for her second baby girl’s newborn portraits.

Mama even moved in between babies and still chose to drive across the city to Airdrie for me and I am so blessed and honoured to have such incredible clients like this beautiful lady.
She also asked for some shots of baby in blue and I am always here for that.

This sweet babe came after mum did her mountain maternity session with me in Banff in February. It was beautiful and the weather was absolutely perfect.

Here are a few of her Banff Mountain Maternity Portrait Session, isn’t she absolutely gorgeous?

Anyways, back to her son’s newborn portraits, because he’s so cute.

I can’t tell you how much I love when folks bring cultural and/or sentimental pieces to photograph. This family is Sikh and brought some things to be photographed, as well as their wedding bands.

Of course when I photograph sentimental images, I do some simpler, less “themed” images as well.

This sweet, sweet little dude came in late November. I always have a Black Friday sale and mama snagged one of the deals when babe was already a month old. I wasn’t worried about his newborn portraits because sometimes “elder newborns” are the best newborns.

He was such a good little one the entire session, not a single peep from him and he was down for every pose. He even laid in my moon pillow and held a tiny teddy bear and he’s so cute. His Airdrie newborn portraits are likely one of my favourite sessions I’ve done this season! Mama even let me do a couple Christmas themed photos!

Little Sisters' Newborn Portraits | Airdrie Newborn Photographer | Lace & Locket Photo

My, house newborn portrait sessions change when you’re not in the middle of a pandemic. When this sweet girl’s big sister came to the studio in 2021, things were a little different. That being said, I was so happy to have her parents back because they are just absolute gems of people.

When a big sibling comes for sibling portraits, it can be daunting. There is a window of time where they want to participate but are too young to actually HOLD baby, and then the window after that is that they want nothing to do with listening or sitting or cooperating in any capacity at all.

This sweet girl was all ready to be in photos with her baby sister and I was here for it. This has got to be the cutest sibling photo I have ever photographed in my studio. Usually I have to photoshop this one.

This sweet boy came along with his family who were the SWEETEST people I have ever met. I know, I say that every time. But seriously. I was so proud of this little dude’s newborn portrait session. Mama snagged a Black Friday sale and got her whole gallery!

Each Airdrie Newborn Photography session is done in my studio. I have a huge collection of props, wraps, outfits and other items to make your newborn photo session exactly what you want it to be. Sweet baby A and her Mama's bridal veil | Calgary Newborn Photographer | Lace & Locket Photo

This sweet little darling could not have been more precious. I know I say that every time but look at her! Her mama brought her traditional wedding veil to be photographed with this sweet girl, and the colours we selected for her newborn photo session were so gorgeous!

I love when folks bring in sentimental things to have photographed with your newborn portraits, especially when I can incorporate them with FLORALS and PURPLE! My favourite things.

I LOVE this family! They booked me for their maternity and newborn portraits with their first baby boy and we had fun. By fun, of course, I mean we froze our bums off in the mountains and there was snow and it was a-blowin’.

Fast forward to when Mama is pregnant with her second little dude, and she books me again! I am always so happy and excited, grateful, when clients book me multiple times. I love getting to know you all and those relationships just grow every time and it’s so incredible.

This little darling was so good for his photos the entire time, I did one of my favourite poses, “tummy time” in a little wooden bed!

I like to offer clients a gallery with a lot of variety, ideal with a vast selection of poses, colours, styles and changes so that your photos are all unique. You can see how that happens here, while trying to stick to a cohesive style.

These sweet girls graced me with their presence when they were still in their mama’s womb back in late fall/early winter for their mountain maternity session. DANG, it was a windy one, I remember that.

We made up for it with warmth in the studio for these little ones when they came for their newborn session. They were so sweet and good to me, and I just loved them. I am so honoured their parents chose me to photograph their journey with these girls and to share their story with me.

Babies with cool accessories | Airdrie Newborn Photographer | Lace & Locket Photo

When clients book their sessions in advance, there’s no telling what adventures we will have in store for us. Luba had done her Banff Mountain Maternity Session with me back in early June2021.. You can see her incredible mountain maternity portraits here.

Well eventually this sweet babe made his grand arrival and Luba texted me to let me know. He was PERFECT! We booked her session for a few weeks out. Then she called me again to tell me she was upset that he had been put on oxygen, she had to call an ambulance one night, they spent a bit of time at SICK KIDS at the Alberta Children’s Hospital and she was exhausted to boot. On top of this whole ordeal. She was worried photos wouldn’t work out now that he had this little accessory and she was so upset. What a wild ride right off the bat for a first time mom!

I assured her that this wasn’t my first time working with a little one who had been put on oxygen and that we would figure it out. I kept the oxygen on him for most of the session, only removing it to snap a frame and then put it back on him. I even captured some images with the oxygen on. Mom was so upset about it, and I do not blame her at all, but I felt it was important to capture it nonetheless.

You see, when I had my first child, she had Hip Dysplasia and had to wear a Pavlik harness. I hated it. I felt traumatized by it, I felt like it was stealing moments from me and my first babe. I couldn’t hold her in a ‘normal’ way and I didn’t take very many photos of it because I didn’t think I’d ever want to remember it. Turns out I do want to remember it. That event was still a part of my first motherhood months and I look back on it now wishing I had more photos to think back, or show other new moms whose babies had to wear Pavlik harnesses that it’s okay, and they will get through it. So now, I tell clients that they don’t have to show anyone, they don’t have to look at those photos until they’re ready, but that one day they would want them and they should have them.

My first client that had a baby come to the studio with oxygen on felt the same way I had felt all those years ago, and the way Luba was feeling. I messaged her to ask if she ever cared about having those photos after I took them - her babe was actually about to turn one. She told me that she thought she’d never want them but she said she loved them now that he was off it, and she was happy I had captured them for her. Me too, friend. Me too.

In some of the images, you’ll see an Owlet Smart Sock on little Dude’s foot. We used this to monitor his oxygen levels in the moments where I removed the oxygen as it sends a notification to mom’s phone if his oxygen levels shifted at all. It worked out really well. What a sweet little one. I am writing this post months after his session and I am happy to share he is no longer on oxygen :)
