Handsome Baby J | Airdrie Area Newborn Photographer | Airdrie, Alberta
This gorgeous lady came to me for her Mountain Maternity Images, and she has been SO lovely about letting me make videos so she’s like my unofficial Spokeswoman for Lace & Locket Photo. Her session took place on a December day when it wasn’t even cold, and there was barely any snow. I know, that’s unbelievable for being Alberta.
You can check out the video I made of C’s maternity session last winter here. It’s super catchy and C is such a stunner, so beware haha!
Naturally I had to make a little video for this Mister’s newborn session, and make Mama tear up when I did it too. You can check that out here.
Summer Mountain Maternity Session | Lace & Locket Photo | Banff, Alberta, Canada | Calgary Mountain Maternity Photographer
Tealyn came to me with her first babe back in 2018 when we did her first maternity session at the gorgeous Saskatoon Farm just south of Calgary. I try to plan Spring garden greenhouse maternity specials each year if it works out and these were the first ones that I had done! It was hot, beautiful and so much fun! I had hired a makeup artist to work with that day and do these ladies’ makeup and make them feel like queens! It was such a perfect day.
Right off the bat we did a set of photos with their sweet toddler because as we all know, they don’t like to hang out for long! She was shy at first but warmed right up!
Two years later we chose to do Tealyn’s session in the mountains and I had a very specific vision for it. Tealyn got her hair & makeup done by the incredible Sarah with S.Kay Makeup Artistry. As if her first session wasn’t perfect enough we created some absolute magic that day as well. We did two locations close together because if you’re driving an hour out, I want to make sure that you are having an incredible experience AND a good variety in your maternity session.
Next we focused on Mama and made her feel like a Q U E E N . The contrast of her gorgeous red hair against a white gown and the gorgeous mountain backdrop was exactly what I had envisioned when I was thinking up her session. Tealyn gave both the makeup artist and myself full creative reign which is always so much fun!
Next we went just up the road for a little bit of a change in scenery. When choosing locations for maternity sessions I make sure of two things : It’s easy terrain for a pregnant person and not far from where we park so that if a client needs to take a break, warm up, cool down, sit for a few minutes, EAT A SNACK, we are not far from all of those things; AND TWO there is another view or element close by to be able to give a good set of variety in the client’s gallery. This is definitely one of those spots.
The International Maternity Session | Alberta Mountain Maternity Photographer | Lace & Locket Photo
This maternity session was very unique, and very special because these were my first International clients.
I have to admit right off the hop though, I had lost a little faith in some of the emails I was getting and it almost didn’t happen. I am in a lot of groups where photographers get scammed -or attempts are constantly made by fancy foreign princes with credit cards and LARGE family photo needs -ALL THE TIME. So when Anna’s email first came through to me at the end of July, stating she was from the States and had found me through my Instagram and wanted to book me while she was here I was suuuuper skeptical. I didn’t even reply for a day or two because I was convinced it had to be a scammer, there’s no way that someone found my work ALL THE WAY DOWN IN THE STATES, and wanted to book ME for her maternity photos while she was here. There was no way, that sounded like something just not possible for me. Not to mention the week she’d be here wanting to do her maternity session I would be 37 weeks pregnant. She would be 32 weeks pregnant. That was the least of my worries, haha!
I decided to reply to what I assumed could be a foreign rich prince, needing to pay me with a sketchy card and if that really was the case, I guess at the very least I could screw with His Highness. LO AND BEHOLD, the person replied, it was not a foreign prince, it was a real human, a sweet human who really did live in the states and would be travelling up here on a pre-baby vacay and wanted me to do take her maternity photos. PINCH ME IS THIS MY REAL LIFE?!?!?!?! It is.
Mountain Maternity Sessions with Lace & Locket Photo include professional makeup so I enlisted the services of Courtney with Smith Makeup Artistry here in Airdrie to do Anna’s makeup, she went out to the mountains before me to jazz up this gorgeous gal, while I drove out ( with my husband in tow JUUUUUUUUUUUUUST in case - I am so grateful he came because I get little crazy trying to get shots even at 37 weeks and he was there to help me up and down and carry all my stuff along the mountain side).
When I met up with Anna & Ben we clicked immediately and they were the SWEETEST FOLKS EVER!!!!! We had about an hour and a half before sunset so we got right to business. The gowns we chose for her are from the Lace & Locket Photo Client Closet, and both were from one of my favourite gown vendors, Chicaboo.
I like to do a few different set changes and outfit changes during a maternity session to give the client lots of variety in their session. One location and one dress would be super boring, to me anyways, AND i CANT GET BORED IM THE ARTISTÈ hahahhahaha. Im kind of kidding, mostly serious.
The second set, we went up the mountain for the Iconic shot on Lake Minnewanka. I don’t like to use this location too often, especially in the summer because it’s such a gong show. In fact I don’t actually do mountain maternity sessions during the summer at all usually because normally the mountains are caked in smoke from BC fires (WE WERE SO LUCKY THIS YEAR) and because the locations I need to use need to be pregnant lady accessible and that usually means that they’re jam packed with tourists here for the summer. But this one was special, these folks came from SoCal so I was wiling to deal with tour buses and hoards of people for them.
If you haven’t had a summer session with me, just know, I ask just about everyone if they want to get in the water. It makes it so much fun, and I love trying different things and pushing boundaries with the environment. Hence why I shoot outdoors only for maternity sessions!
We shot straight until the sun was gone, and we were cold and wet haha. It was the best end to the best session and I am so honoured these folks chose me to take their maternity photos of their first baby. Thank you to them for giving me this amazing opportunity!
