Milky Way Mountain Maternity Portraits | Mountain Maternity Photographer | Lace & Locket Photo
WOW
This session was like dynamite. It was a breath of fresh air and the weather was lovely (for being done in Winter, anyways). This mama was an absolute stunner at her Mountain Maternity portrait session.
This sweet gal had seen a photo I had taken earlier in the year where I put a moon and the Milky Way into a Mountain maternity portrait for another client and she loved it, and asked if I’d be willing to do something like that for hers. I absolutely did and I love how it matched the gown she is wearing in this shot.
All of the gowns that are featured in this mountain maternity portrait session in Banff are a part of my client closet and are available for use for clients.
Miss N's Mountain Maternity Photos | YYC Mountain Maternity Photographer | Lace & Locket Photo
Miss N’s Mountain Maternity Session took place in Banff in early June. It was overcast but it gave the session an absolutely beautiful backdrop. Makeup and hair were provided by Smith Makeup Artistry based in Calgary, Alberta. Gowns are available in my Client Closet, available for use for clients.
I absolutely love that we were able to include their adorable dog in their session, I absolutely LOVE DOGS. It rained a little bit at the very beginning of N’s session but we were having so much fun we couldn’t even tell, you can only see it in the water in the first set of red-dress photos.
Handsome Baby J | Airdrie Area Newborn Photographer | Airdrie, Alberta
This gorgeous lady came to me for her Mountain Maternity Images, and she has been SO lovely about letting me make videos so she’s like my unofficial Spokeswoman for Lace & Locket Photo. Her session took place on a December day when it wasn’t even cold, and there was barely any snow. I know, that’s unbelievable for being Alberta.
You can check out the video I made of C’s maternity session last winter here. It’s super catchy and C is such a stunner, so beware haha!
Naturally I had to make a little video for this Mister’s newborn session, and make Mama tear up when I did it too. You can check that out here.
Gorgeous February Maternity | Lace & Locket Photo | Mountain Maternity | Banff, Alberta
This Banff Mountain Maternity Session took place in the DEAD of winter, February. Every February in Calgary, Alberta, the weather is brutally frigid, temps are generally 30 below for almost the entire month and of course this mama’s session date was no exception. When she booked in December, we didn’t know the temperatures and of course the weekend before her session it was gross.
We had to plough ahead though as mama is a nurse and her schedule wasn’t able to flex so I went to work telling the weather it needed to chill out with it’s chills. It listened. I‘m not saying I’m magic but…..this sounds like magic to me :)
This mama booked me all the way from EDMONTON, Alberta. I am always so honoured to have clients who choose to travel to come have me take their mountain maternity portraits, it makes my heart explode. She came down in time to have my makeup artist pamper her right up with hair & makeup. Sarah, of S.Kay Makeup Artistry, did an incredible job. Mama had such stunning eyes and Sarah truly made them POP.

The International Maternity Session | Alberta Mountain Maternity Photographer | Lace & Locket Photo
This maternity session was very unique, and very special because these were my first International clients.
I have to admit right off the hop though, I had lost a little faith in some of the emails I was getting and it almost didn’t happen. I am in a lot of groups where photographers get scammed -or attempts are constantly made by fancy foreign princes with credit cards and LARGE family photo needs -ALL THE TIME. So when Anna’s email first came through to me at the end of July, stating she was from the States and had found me through my Instagram and wanted to book me while she was here I was suuuuper skeptical. I didn’t even reply for a day or two because I was convinced it had to be a scammer, there’s no way that someone found my work ALL THE WAY DOWN IN THE STATES, and wanted to book ME for her maternity photos while she was here. There was no way, that sounded like something just not possible for me. Not to mention the week she’d be here wanting to do her maternity session I would be 37 weeks pregnant. She would be 32 weeks pregnant. That was the least of my worries, haha!
I decided to reply to what I assumed could be a foreign rich prince, needing to pay me with a sketchy card and if that really was the case, I guess at the very least I could screw with His Highness. LO AND BEHOLD, the person replied, it was not a foreign prince, it was a real human, a sweet human who really did live in the states and would be travelling up here on a pre-baby vacay and wanted me to do take her maternity photos. PINCH ME IS THIS MY REAL LIFE?!?!?!?! It is.
Mountain Maternity Sessions with Lace & Locket Photo include professional makeup so I enlisted the services of Courtney with Smith Makeup Artistry here in Airdrie to do Anna’s makeup, she went out to the mountains before me to jazz up this gorgeous gal, while I drove out ( with my husband in tow JUUUUUUUUUUUUUST in case - I am so grateful he came because I get little crazy trying to get shots even at 37 weeks and he was there to help me up and down and carry all my stuff along the mountain side).
When I met up with Anna & Ben we clicked immediately and they were the SWEETEST FOLKS EVER!!!!! We had about an hour and a half before sunset so we got right to business. The gowns we chose for her are from the Lace & Locket Photo Client Closet, and both were from one of my favourite gown vendors, Chicaboo.
I like to do a few different set changes and outfit changes during a maternity session to give the client lots of variety in their session. One location and one dress would be super boring, to me anyways, AND i CANT GET BORED IM THE ARTISTÈ hahahhahaha. Im kind of kidding, mostly serious.
The second set, we went up the mountain for the Iconic shot on Lake Minnewanka. I don’t like to use this location too often, especially in the summer because it’s such a gong show. In fact I don’t actually do mountain maternity sessions during the summer at all usually because normally the mountains are caked in smoke from BC fires (WE WERE SO LUCKY THIS YEAR) and because the locations I need to use need to be pregnant lady accessible and that usually means that they’re jam packed with tourists here for the summer. But this one was special, these folks came from SoCal so I was wiling to deal with tour buses and hoards of people for them.
If you haven’t had a summer session with me, just know, I ask just about everyone if they want to get in the water. It makes it so much fun, and I love trying different things and pushing boundaries with the environment. Hence why I shoot outdoors only for maternity sessions!
We shot straight until the sun was gone, and we were cold and wet haha. It was the best end to the best session and I am so honoured these folks chose me to take their maternity photos of their first baby. Thank you to them for giving me this amazing opportunity!
