WOW
This session was like dynamite. It was a breath of fresh air and the weather was lovely (for being done in Winter, anyways). This mama was an absolute stunner at her Mountain Maternity portrait session.
This sweet gal had seen a photo I had taken earlier in the year where I put a moon and the Milky Way into a Mountain maternity portrait for another client and she loved it, and asked if Iād be willing to do something like that for hers. I absolutely did and I love how it matched the gown she is wearing in this shot.
All of the gowns that are featured in this mountain maternity portrait session in Banff are a part of my client closet and are available for use for clients.

This poor galās session took place in June and we had to reschedule so many times. June tends to be rainy and the threat of storms is very real. Now, Iām not worried about getting caught in the rain, that doesnāt bother me. Itās not being able to see the mountains when that is what a client has picked. The pressure is so real.
Now, this session was around the third or fourth time we rescheduled and mama was creeping closer and closer to her due date, we were running out of time. So, on this night, I just decided to put my foot down and let go of the control and go through with this evening date we had picked. The weather still said it wasnāt going to be great but sometimes the weather lies, and I wanted to call itās bluff.
Luckily we could see the mountains just fine, yay!
BUT THE WIND. It was severe. I can deal with wind though. I got some skills, got some tricks.
Magical Milky Way Mountain Maternity | Lace & Locket Photo | Banff, Alberta
Ok, listen.
This session was literal magic. I donāt know what else to say.
Brianne had her makeup done by none other than S.Kay Makeup Artistry and she looked STUNNING.
It was a moderately cold day, of course and the snow just didnāt know what it wanted to. Homegirl came out to Banff and she brought the HEAT with her.
She picked stunning dresses from my Client Closet, and we kept her warm with Hubby standing just out of frame with a nice warm coat and a blanket. She wore maternity leggings underneath with a black spaghetti strap tank top.
The most magical part was at the end, when I wanted to add a touch of magic, milky way magic. The moon was shining so bright and clear that night but, of course, the moon is so small through the lens of my camera. I wanted to have the moon in her photos, even a couple, but it just wouldnāt work with a true moon. So I used an artificial one, a vector. It didnāt do the trick. I didnāt like itā¦.till I found an overlay that was the Milky Way.
MAGICAL.
It was so stunning. I made a reel about this photo on my Lace & Locket Photo Instagram and you can watch that here.
All the gowns in this beautiful individualās Banff Mountain Maternity Photo Session are available for booked clients in the Lace & Locket Photo Client Closet.
Hair and Makeup is provided by S.Kay Makeup Artistry for Mountain Maternity Portrait Sessions, and can be added on to Local YYC Maternity Sessions.

Miss Nās Mountain Maternity Session took place in Banff in early June. It was overcast but it gave the session an absolutely beautiful backdrop. Makeup and hair were provided by Smith Makeup Artistry based in Calgary, Alberta. Gowns are available in my Client Closet, available for use for clients.
I absolutely love that we were able to include their adorable dog in their session, I absolutely LOVE DOGS. It rained a little bit at the very beginning of Nās session but we were having so much fun we couldnāt even tell, you can only see it in the water in the first set of red-dress photos.
Lady S | Baby Girl Mountain Maternity Gender Reveal | Banff, Alberta | Lace & Locket Photo
THIS. GIRL. NAILED. HER. SESSION. I know I say that every time, but sheās a literal goddess.
S told me she had found me on Instagram a few years back but she wasnāt pregnant and so she followed me, and waited until the day she would be. And I am so happy she did. Her and her little family were such a delight to work with.
As with my other mountain maternity work, S had her makeup and hair done by Sarah with S.Kay Makeup Artistry in Calgary. We came to meet in Banff and it was actually quite cloudy, a little windy, but not too bad. This session took place in early June.
Before her session was to take place, S asked if we could do a gender reveal for her family. She hadnāt told any of her family what they were having and she had the most adorable idea, using coloured flower petals! Of course many of us have heard about some gender reveal ideas that have been scary, or down right dangerous and so I am very careful what I will or wonāt do - I said we can absolutely do this but we would have to pick up all the petals after the fact (they were artificial) because I wanted to guarantee that whatever we did, we left no trace on Mother Earth. So after this next photo, we did a real quick 100 petal pick-up hahah!)
SUCH A CUTE IDEA!
Then we moved onto just S and spoiling her with gorgeous images, in this gorgeous custom made gown by a lovely lady who lives in Calgary. Supporting local in every way I can is my JAM. This boho gown was made just for my clients and I love it.
Sarahās work on Sās hair and makeup makes me swoon to this day <3 That red lip though!
Yep, I for sure was IN the lake to get this shot. It was absolutely worth it. And this is why I bring spare pants to sessions. Canāt do this in winter!
Cannot wait to post this lovely humanās newborn photos of her sweet baby girl!
A Maternity of All Four Seasons | Calgary Mountain Maternity Photographer | Lace & Locket Photo
First off, know that Mās mountain maternity session took place IN MAY. The first weekend of May, but still. Welcome to Alberta, I guess. M was getting her makeup done by none other than the talented Sarah of S.Kay Makeup Artistry, our resident Calgary Makeup Artist, and I was driving out to Banff to make sure all my spots were looking tip top, and to check to see if the lakes were fully thawed or not. I wasnāt even off 16th Ave yet and it turned into a whiteout. Snow, slush, sleet coming down, my windshield wipers couldnāt keep up.
Then it stopped.
Then the sun came out.
Then it started to rain and snow while the sun was shining down.
What. Is. Going. On.
Oh, you know. Just Alberta weather. I knew that M was coming somewhere behind me, driving through every single season as well, and probably having the same little heart attacks that I was with every shift in weather.
I got to Canmore, couldnāt see the mountains. I was worriedā¦ but as SOON as I got past the Banff National Park gate, it was like magic. The clouds parted, the blue sky and sun were shining bright and I could see all my favourite mountains. EXCELLENT.
It lasted long enough to get a handful of family shotsā¦
Of course once we got into the gowns, things started to shift again. Suddenly clouds dropped, it got windy, and cold, and started to rain, hard! We were able to get these shots before we had to run for cover in the car!
SURE ENOUGH another storm passed over us, NO VISIBILITY - AGAIN. We persevered. We waited 10 minutes, and the storm passed. The sunset sky that the universe gave us for the rest of her sessionā¦.was BREATHTAKING.
I have to say that I absolutely LOVE when the mountains still have snow on them, I think theyāre stunning. Like wearing their Sunday best, or their best dress out on the town. There is still snow on the ground in some of these images, despite it being May, we were just on the cusp of the snow melting and Summer taking over.
Of course, just because thereās no snow in one spot we photograph in, doesnāt mean that 500 feet away there isnāt full on Winter just hanging out. I love these spots I use because they all have the ability to offer completely different variations of backdrops to your photos - adding in different gowns in different colours, fits and seasons, and itās easy to make total magic!
All gowns in this blog post are available to use in your own session from my Client Closet.
Makeup was provided by Sarah of S.Kay Makeup Artistry.
Session took place in the Banff Area in Banff National Park.
Gorgeous February Maternity | Lace & Locket Photo | Mountain Maternity | Banff, Alberta
This Banff Mountain Maternity Session took place in the DEAD of winter, February. Every February in Calgary, Alberta, the weather is brutally frigid, temps are generally 30 below for almost the entire month and of course this mamaās session date was no exception. When she booked in December, we didnāt know the temperatures and of course the weekend before her session it was gross.
We had to plough ahead though as mama is a nurse and her schedule wasnāt able to flex so I went to work telling the weather it needed to chill out with itās chills. It listened. Iām not saying Iām magic butā¦..this sounds like magic to me :)
This mama booked me all the way from EDMONTON, Alberta. I am always so honoured to have clients who choose to travel to come have me take their mountain maternity portraits, it makes my heart explode. She came down in time to have my makeup artist pamper her right up with hair & makeup. Sarah, of S.Kay Makeup Artistry, did an incredible job. Mama had such stunning eyes and Sarah truly made them POP.
