Sunset Vibes Maternity Session | Calgary Maternity Photographer | Lace & Locket Photo

We had to reschedule this Calgary Maternity Portrait session at first because of the snow. but It gave us a nice dusting of snow to cover MOST of the old snow that had turned brown and gross.

They brought their sweet puppy (not really the size of a puppy anymore) MOLLY and she stole the scene!

This mama had her hair and makeup done by Sarah, my in-house makeup artist. The makeup, the gowns, the LIGHT!! It made for such an incredible session.

The above is this lovely client in my Boho gown, custom made here in Calgary. Shop local, amirite!

This is the Faythe gown. It fits anyone and it’s ability to be “tossed” makes it a favourite.

This mama messaged me after I sent a few of these sneak peeks about how grateful she was that she did this session to showcase her body during this incredible time. That means so much to me. I am so happy she chose to do a maternity session and especially with some of these sheer gowns, despite the discomforts that can come with experiencing changing body with pregnancy.

A Maternity of All Four Seasons | Calgary Mountain Maternity Photographer | Lace & Locket Photo

First off, know that M’s mountain maternity session took place IN MAY. The first weekend of May, but still. Welcome to Alberta, I guess. M was getting her makeup done by none other than the talented Sarah of S.Kay Makeup Artistry, our resident Calgary Makeup Artist, and I was driving out to Banff to make sure all my spots were looking tip top, and to check to see if the lakes were fully thawed or not. I wasn’t even off 16th Ave yet and it turned into a whiteout. Snow, slush, sleet coming down, my windshield wipers couldn’t keep up.
Then it stopped.
Then the sun came out.
Then it started to rain and snow while the sun was shining down.
What. Is. Going. On.
Oh, you know. Just Alberta weather. I knew that M was coming somewhere behind me, driving through every single season as well, and probably having the same little heart attacks that I was with every shift in weather.

I got to Canmore, couldn’t see the mountains. I was worried… but as SOON as I got past the Banff National Park gate, it was like magic. The clouds parted, the blue sky and sun were shining bright and I could see all my favourite mountains. EXCELLENT.

It lasted long enough to get a handful of family shots…

Of course once we got into the gowns, things started to shift again. Suddenly clouds dropped, it got windy, and cold, and started to rain, hard! We were able to get these shots before we had to run for cover in the car!

SURE ENOUGH another storm passed over us, NO VISIBILITY - AGAIN. We persevered. We waited 10 minutes, and the storm passed. The sunset sky that the universe gave us for the rest of her session….was BREATHTAKING.

I have to say that I absolutely LOVE when the mountains still have snow on them, I think they’re stunning. Like wearing their Sunday best, or their best dress out on the town. There is still snow on the ground in some of these images, despite it being May, we were just on the cusp of the snow melting and Summer taking over.

Of course, just because there’s no snow in one spot we photograph in, doesn’t mean that 500 feet away there isn’t full on Winter just hanging out. I love these spots I use because they all have the ability to offer completely different variations of backdrops to your photos - adding in different gowns in different colours, fits and seasons, and it’s easy to make total magic!

All gowns in this blog post are available to use in your own session from my Client Closet.
Makeup was provided by Sarah of S.Kay Makeup Artistry.
Session took place in the Banff Area in Banff National Park.

Fall Maternity Portraits in Fish Creek Park | Lace & Locket Photo | Airdrie Maternity Photographer

I always want to capture the stunning fall colours here in Alberta but whenever a client books a Calgary maternity session by the time it rolls around the snow has hit! This year I wanted to be prepared and make sure I was able to capture the colours in time so I ran a model call and that’s where I met this gorgeous mama and her beautiful family.

We met at Fish Creek Park in October and I don’t think it could have been a more perfect evening.

This mama was down for all my crazy ideas, including getting into the creek in OCTOBER. It was cold but she said it was totally worth it!

Marla was supposed to come for the model call just herself but when she sent me her photo and I saw her gorgeous family I wanted to try my hand at getting a family photo of a family of 5 with one on the way. It was tricky for SURE with a toddler but if she can do it every day, I could do it for 20 minutes. Totally paid off.

Naturally she knocked it out of the park, as did her family, but her solo photos were absolute perfection. I wish I could take photos of some people pregnant year round!

This was SUCH a fun session! We shot just before sunset at Fish Creek Park in Calgary and it was a gorgeous night. J brought a dress of her own to start and it was mustard coloured and gorgeous! The pink, sequin and black gowns are in the Lace & Locket Client Closet which you can visit here.

I can’t wait to Photograph this stunning couple’s adorable babe in September, it’s sure to be as fun and gorgeous as these folks were at their maternity session!

I met this lovely little 3-pack of awesome at the Mommylicious show in Airdrie back in March. As I talked to mama she told me about how she had a less than spectacular experience with her first babe but was very interested in my work. I immediately started thinking of ways I could make her experience with me a special one, before she had even booked! I was delighted when a few weeks later she wanted to book both a mountain maternity and a newborn session as well as some additional sessions later on after babe #2 was born.

She was barely pregnant when we met so we had a long time to wait which I usually enjoy as it gives me a good amount of time to come up with a unique vision and style of imagery I think would look stunning for her.

These images were the fruits of my creative imagination and I was so pleased to have a client who was willing to do things like get in the water and on the dock for some outstanding images. It was incredible.
