Sunset Vibes Maternity Session | Calgary Maternity Photographer | Lace & Locket Photo

We had to reschedule this Calgary Maternity Portrait session at first because of the snow. but It gave us a nice dusting of snow to cover MOST of the old snow that had turned brown and gross.

They brought their sweet puppy (not really the size of a puppy anymore) MOLLY and she stole the scene!

This mama had her hair and makeup done by Sarah, my in-house makeup artist. The makeup, the gowns, the LIGHT!! It made for such an incredible session.

The above is this lovely client in my Boho gown, custom made here in Calgary. Shop local, amirite!

This is the Faythe gown. It fits anyone and it’s ability to be “tossed” makes it a favourite.

This mama messaged me after I sent a few of these sneak peeks about how grateful she was that she did this session to showcase her body during this incredible time. That means so much to me. I am so happy she chose to do a maternity session and especially with some of these sheer gowns, despite the discomforts that can come with experiencing changing body with pregnancy.

Winter Wonder Land Mountain Maternity | Banff Maternity Photographer | Lace & Locket Photo | Banff, Alberta

This.Session. Was Epic.

I still am speechless on how stunningly these images turned out, and it makes me want to wish for Winter in Banff again so I can go back and always do more of this!

Winter Wonderland Banff Mountain Maternity

It was around -10 degrees celsius for this session which is pretty standard. The wind wasn’t too bad but I was worried that with the bit of clouds in the sky we wouldn’t be able to see the mountains. It snowed gently throughout the entire day but it really worked out for us.

All gowns in this session are in my client closet and available to use for your own booked session. In the winter, we layer with leggings and tank tops and simply tuck the straps.

Just out of frame of all these images, is either my assistant, client’s partner (or both!) with blankets, warm bottles and things like that. This client actually brought the biggest, warmest fuzzy robe and it came in SO HANDY!

These dresses are actually the blue dress in my client collection and the client asked to have the colour changed and I love the tone she picked. It was so beautiful and flowy. You can see the snow in the background coming down and it’s so sweet.

This session was done just outside the Town of Banff in December, just before Christmas.

Fall Maternity Portraits in Fish Creek Park | Lace & Locket Photo | Airdrie Maternity Photographer

I always want to capture the stunning fall colours here in Alberta but whenever a client books a Calgary maternity session by the time it rolls around the snow has hit! This year I wanted to be prepared and make sure I was able to capture the colours in time so I ran a model call and that’s where I met this gorgeous mama and her beautiful family.

We met at Fish Creek Park in October and I don’t think it could have been a more perfect evening.

This mama was down for all my crazy ideas, including getting into the creek in OCTOBER. It was cold but she said it was totally worth it!

Marla was supposed to come for the model call just herself but when she sent me her photo and I saw her gorgeous family I wanted to try my hand at getting a family photo of a family of 5 with one on the way. It was tricky for SURE with a toddler but if she can do it every day, I could do it for 20 minutes. Totally paid off.

Naturally she knocked it out of the park, as did her family, but her solo photos were absolute perfection. I wish I could take photos of some people pregnant year round!

Moody Spring Maternity Sessions | Lace & Locket Photo | YYC Maternity Photographer | Fish Creek Park

Alice’s session was one of the first maternity sessions I did after the country started opening back up after the COVID-19 shut down during the spring. I had some pent up energy or creativity or whatever you want to call it. I was so excited to get out and shoot some golden hour beauty but I was only met with grey skies. I made it work. It turned out gorgeous and her session went off beautifully. We did her session at one of my favourite parks, Fish Creek Park in Calgary. Alice is also a newborn photographer so the pressure was on! You can view her work here.

It's always Sunny in Calgary | Lace & Locket Photo - Calgary Maternity Photographer | Pearce Estate Park, YYC

When Miss J booked her maternity session for the end of June, we were battling rain. Yes it’s true, the weather here in Alberta is unpredictable & can be downright nasty, sunny, beautiful, terrifying and everything else, all in one day. I know, it’s so hard to believe. Anyways.

Back in 2016 it was the same. During July, it rained I think 21 out of the 31 days of the entire month and those other 10 days were hardly filled with warmth and sun. I remember distinctly because back then I was shooting weddings and I had about 3 including a week long Indian wedding and the weather was not nice to any of us. One day, we got rained out during the wedding formals and we headed to the SAIT parking lot where we found about 20 other wedding photographers and their bridal parties, all trying to find refuge from the downpour.

I’ve gotten pretty good at deciphering The Weather Network and it’s reports on what the forecast is supposed to look like. I’ve found that there’s never a 50% chance of rain, it’s either 40% or less, or 60% and higher. 40% and less, generally it might do anything from sprinkle to downpour for 5 minutes and then it ends. 60% -80% Im still pretty skeptical. 90% chance of rain, I look to see how much because it could still be a liar and be so super nice, sometimes it rains the entire day. Sometimes.

On the afternoon leading up to J’s session it was super dark in Calgary, which is south of me ( Im located in Airdrie) and super dark to the north of me, and super bright and sunny north of that. She was nervous. I reassured her that we still had a few hours and I had a feeling it was about to dump and then the skies would open and leave a beauty sunset for us just in time for her session. She was skeptical, haha. We waited, it rained. But then it got sunny. And sunny enough that it dried by the time our session started, which was located at Pearce Estate Park, also home of the Bow Habitat Station - you can take your kids there to fish! (it backs onto the river, and the Deerfoot, take the 17th & Blackfoot Exist west, first right and you’re there).

The gowns featured in this session are part of the Lace & Locket Photo Client Closet and are available to use with a booked maternity session, free of charge.
Location - Pearce Estate Park, 1440 17a St SE, Calgary, AB

The Tree of Life Maternity Session | Calgary Maternity Photographer | South Glenmore Park | Lace & Locket Photography

Brianna's session was done in late October at South Glenmore Park. I had no idea this park existed and I sure didn't know there was access to water and I loved the different options for this session. I arrived early to scout the location and found this stunning tree where it branched out right from the base and it just spoke to me so I knew that I wanted this stunning mama to pose in it. The shots turned out perfect and I later found out that the "Tree of Life" was her family crest and it just seemed meant to be!

I can't wait for their little miss to come into the world so that I can cuddle her and put her in the cutest little custom outfit I had made by Kartay Photography Props just for her newborn session!

April Mountain Maternity Session | Lake Minnewanka | Mountain Maternity | Calgary Maternity & Newborn Photographer | Lace & Locket Photography

This was such a fun session! I have never met such a fun family! Ty messaged me only a couple weeks before her session was to take place and originally she wanted to just have a maternity session done in her home but soon changed her mind once she saw the mountain maternity sessions on my website. When we met in the mountains on this exceptional April day, it was love at first sight and magic was made! She was stunning in every dress I put her in and we laughed so much as she changed and the love between her and Jason was pure magic. I didnt have to tell them what to do or how to pose, they just set the stage with their emotions and it was amazing!

At the end of the session Ty had such a great time she asked me to shoot her baby's newborn session when she arrived and we did it just last weekend. Like baby B was absolutely perfect. Watch for her session on the blog in a couple weeks !

Samantha's Winter Maternity Session | Calgary Maternity & Newborn Photographer | Mountain Maternity Session | Lace & Locket Photography

This session I had waited for since before Christmas. I was so excited and so pumped. I had planned out the locations ahead of time & figured out the poses I wanted to. This is why I always recommend booking your sessions with me as early as you can so that I have time to think about every aspect of creativity I can.

The forecast called for -26 the day we were supposed to shoot but THANKFULLY it was warmer than that. NOT BY MUCH, but it was bearable, except for while we were on the lake, unprotected by a town or trees. But the images we caught were so stunningly gorgeous, it was well worth it! I ALWAYS bring an assistant with me to mountain maternity sessions to hold blankets, boots, jackets and anything else the client will need to stay warm, comfortable and dry, even cool if it's in the summer months!

Sam got her hair & makeup done for this session by the lovely Artistry by Bobi
Her dress is from Pink Blush Maternity
